My obligatory 'I got an iPhone' post

Well the price drop finally convinced me to go grab an Jesus phone iPhone. Love it. Best cell phone I've ever had or used by far - and I don't see anyone coming anywhere close any time soon. Nokia, Samsung, etc. all seem to be fixated on the 'touch screen' facet and are trying to rush out their own new touch screen phones. Not gonna cut it. There's so much more to it than that, and as long as those folks are running those crappy cell phone OS's on their new phones, they aren't gonna capture the magic at all. (And this is coming from a total non-Mac and non-OSX person.)

So here is the updated list of what I'm still missing from the iPhone experience, followed by my list of 'gotta have these' apps:

- No USB HDD access
- No 3G network
- No GPS
- No A2DP (Stereo) bluetooth profile
- No video capture capability
- No MMS 'text' messages
- Non-replacable battery
- No voice dialing
- No (easy) use as laptop modem
- No 'push' GMail
- No custom/music ringtones
- No native IM apps (though still no GTalk app yet)

Native app wish-list:
- MAME (of course)
- Sega Genesis emulator
- GMail app
- GTalk app
- Good native RSS app
- Instant search text box (sort of like Launchy)

Update: Stephen Frysums up my thoughts on the current state of 'smart' phones quite nicely. (and yes, he is the voice of The Guide in HHGTTG, so bonus geek points for this link)
